Bay City Diner At The “Golden Gate”

Inside the “Golden Gate” downtown is a very good diner called the Bay City Diner or Du Pars which is the family that owns the diner. The food here is really good value for the money and the fresh pies are amazing with quick and, friendly service. The room is pleasant with a long diner counter with a stainless steel kitchen area behind the counter and dark wood booths with red vinyl seats along the other side of the room and at the back of the restaurant. Breakfast here is real good with several items served twenty four hours a day. On my last visit I had corned beef which wasn’t as good as in the past as it crumbled as I tried to pick it up but was still tasty; the corned beef also came with eggs, hash browns and toast which were all good. I try to visit this place at least once on a trip and if you are downtown and hungry it’s a good bet.

The Steakhouse At "Circus Circus"

"Circus Circus" home of the big scary clown and, mediocre food is home to what maybe the best steakhouse in town. The restaurant is simply called 'The Steakhouse' and for years has been selling good quality steaks for what maybe the best value in town. The restaurant constantly tops best of Las Vegas lists so if you are looking for a good steak in town make a stop here. The restaurant is off the main casino floor and has a happy hour between 3-5pm nightly, reservations are recommended.

California Club Snack Bar

The hotel snack bars may not be the most glamorous places around but they do provide good food quickly at a good price. This past Friday night there was crowds and lines at all food places on Fremont Street so I headed over to the “California Hotel & Casino” and looked at food options. The “California” does have good specials in its main restaurant but I decided to grab a quick bite at the ‘California Club Snack Bar’ which is located just inside one of the main doors. The “California” caters to Hawaiian tourists whom Boyd flies in under airline packages so they do have some Hawaiian inspired dishes but I decided to try their Philly Steak sandwich instead. The food arrived quickly and the sandwich was good the cheese wasn’t totally melted when it arrived but it was hot and soon melted. The Philly Steak may not have been like an original one from Philly but was very tasty. If you need to eat quickly and are close by the ‘California Club Snack Bar’ is worth a stop.

$24.99 Eat All Day At "Excalibur"

For $24.99 you can eat at Excaliburs buffet for twenty four hours which is a good deal the food is pretty bland but it a good deal if you are on a limited budget; The price on the weekends is a little higher at $29.99 but it still a good deal. These kind of deals are getting more and more common around town and are a good deal if you plan to spend your time at one property. If you plan to visit several properties around town the Caesars buffet of buffets maybe a better option for you.

Craftsteak At The MGM Grand

Craftsteak is the steak house located at the MGM Grand owned by Tom Colicchio one of the judges on Bravo TV's, Top Chef show as well as owner of several other restaurants across the country under the Craft Restaurants Group. The room itself is a beautiful room with lots of wood and the service was friendly as you would expect for a high end restaurant. When the waiter took my order i ordered fingerling potatoes but not veggies as was trying to keep the price down somewhat the waiter suggested he could do half potato and half veggies as for the same price as the potato portion was large which i said yes too ($12). I also ordered a Espresso Martini ($13) which came quickly and was very good. The food took a while to arrive but when it did it was very good the Filet Mignon ($56) was good but the question i had for myself was it better than steaks for less at other places on the strip i would say most likely not. A big reason i visited Craftsteak was because of Tom Coliccio and curiosity also i had a $50 food credit as part of my room package so the cost wasn't too bad. If i didn't have the credit would i visit Craftsteak again most likely not as i'm on a limited budget and there is plenty of places in town to get an outstanding steak for less. If budget isn't a issue and you are looking for good food and service then Craftsteak maybe a option for you.

Pizza Palace At Imperial Palace

If you feel the need for some pizza at Imperial Palace they do have a pizza restaurant upstairs called the Pizza Palace. The pizza served here isn't the greatest but its okay although the room is kind of bland. This restaurant is good for a food fix if you are in the area and they often have lots of specials (one note is Pizza Palace doesn't open until 5pm daily).

Ghirardelli Discount Coupon

Ghirardelli is famous for great chocolate and, amazing deserts and sundaes in its stores. These sundaes are pure sugar rush's and, worth every penny i have eaten at the Las Vegas location as well as the one at their home in San Francisco. The Las Vegas location is at the back of the Carnival Court area between Harrah's and the Imperial Palace its to one side of the stage area. If you plan on eating here usually out front in Carnival Court is a person in a sundae outfit handing out coupons for $1 off any specialty sundae or or 10 percent off chocolate purchases. Yes the sundaes are more expensive than your standard Baskin Robbin's sundae but its well worth it.

Uncle Joe's Pizza

This pizza joint is not that pretty inside but its a place to get cheap food near Fremont Street. Uncle Joe's is located just a block from the Fremont Street Experience towards the El Cortez. As i said the place is just like a local pizza joint anywhere but a good place to get a big slice of cheese pizza or some other inexpensive italian food, sandwiches or burgers etc. Uncle Joe's doesn't except checks (for the 2 of you that have checks) or credit cards but a plus is that its open to usually 10 or 11pm approximately and they also deliver.

Cafe Cortez Coffee Shop

Cafe Cortez at the El Cortez downtown is your basic twenty four hour coffee shop just off the main casino floor. The room is us okay and the food isn't bad for the money although they did burn my corned beef hash a little but it tasted fine. The only drawback is the service which is okay unless a regular customer walks in then the servers just ignore you as they chat with the locals. If you are downtown and need a coffee shop the Magnolia Cafe at the Four Queens or the diner at the Golden Gate are better options but if you are down near the El Cortez the food isn't bad.

Review: Room Service At The Orleans

Room service in Las Vegas varies greatly according to the property with quality, cost and hours of service varying. On the strip the cost of room service can be really expensive at some properties with expensive service charges or better at others. Room service in general is more expensive than walking down to the coffee shop but the convenience of having breakfast in bed or having a pot of coffee come to you room in the morning is nice. I recently ordered room service at The Orleans which is an off strip property and must admit the service was good; First of all room service is available here 24 hours a day and also the room service charge is a low $2 per person. I ordered a Ham & Cheese Omelette which was very good and came with hash browns and toast for $7.95 and also ordered a large carafe of coffee for $8.95. The food arrived quickly about 25 minutes and was well worth the money.
