Hailing A Cab In LV

I see it all the time tourists walking out in the street to hail a cab, Las Vegas isn’t New York and the cabs are not supposed to pick people up on the street. The best option if you are on the strip or downtown to get a cab is to walk to the front of one of bigger hotels and, join the taxi line. Usually lines of taxis will be waiting and the doormen will signal to a cab when it’s your turn and, ask where you are going so he can tell the driver. It’s customary to tip the doormen but don't make a big deal over the tip just slide it in to their hand. How much to tip is up to you but a buck or two is fine; The doormen is also a good source for information if you have time and if he gives you a good tip feel free to tip him a bit more. If you are not near one of the larger hotels you can also call for a taxi and have it pick you up. Cabs are a good option for larger groups because there is a five person maximum but there fare is the same however the number of people in the cab. Especially during big conventions they often bring cabs in from surrounding areas  and some cabs have a plate on the back section of the can saying there are restricted from certain areas if you get one and it cannot go to where you want just get the next cab in line.
