Vegas StrEATS Festival Coming May 14th

Food Truck festivals where a bunch of food trucks with great food gather are becoming more common and on May 14th one of these festivals comes to downtown Las Vegas. The event is near the "El Cortez" and is called the Vegas StrEATS Festival on the Jackie Gaughan Parkway from 6pm to 2am. Each food truck will also include a bbq themed dish exculsively for this event which coincides with Hellorado which runs from May 12-15th. This event will also have a larger area to accomadate the larger crowds and expand on to 6th street. The food trucks scheduled to appear at the event are Slidin’ Thru, Muncheeze, Fukuburger, Sloppi Jo’s, Tasty Bunz, Haulin’ Ballz, Food Slingers, Snow Ono Shave Ice, Island Breeze, Cheesesteak Truck as well as more. The event is being sponsored by the "El Cortez", Slidin' Thru and the new Insert Coin(s) Videolounge Gamebar who will be providing food live art and music to the Fremont Street East Entertainment District. The Fremont Street East Entertainment District is the area from the Fremont Street Experiance to the "El Cortez" and over the last year or so has really took off with cool bars.

Bonneville Transit Center Now Open

The new bus station is open downtown and its called the Bonneville Transit Center. The new depot is a big improvement over the previous one with more security and easy access to the Deuce that runs down the strip as well as the strip and downtown express buses. Some work is being done on some side streets still but overwise the center is complete and seemed busy with tourists and locals alike. The old transit center was a block over from Fremont Street away from the strip the new depot is on the other side of Fremont Street about three blocks from it closer to the strip.

Shuttered "Plaza" Hotel Tonight

This is a picture taken tonight of the main entrance of the shuttered "Plaza" Hotel in downtown Las Vegas at one end of the Fremont Street Experiance. The casino is still open with access from a side entrance but the hotel itself is undergoing a $20 million remodel on the rooms which are due to open this summer. The money being spent doesn't sound much for the 1,037 hotel rooms but the "Plaza" was able to pick up quality furnishings at auction that were due for other stalled hotel projets in town. The "Plaza" has been in decline for years and other than spending some money to brighten up the casino a few years ago the property was dated. I don't now if the updated "Plaza" will look as good as the "Tropicana" remodel but any owner looking to spend money to upgrade there product is a plus in a really tough market at the moment.

Summer Of 69 BusLast summer was the "Summer Of 69" promotion on Fremont Street with props and concerts celebrating the "Summer Of 69." So how do they follow it up well this years promotion is called the "Summer Of The 70's" with music from the period that gave us disco, platform shoes, classic rock and flare pants. The promotion just started on May 28th and runs through September 6th. The event will have free concerts as well as weekly tribute bands of 70's music. Highlights of the concert series include Sweet June 5th, Blue Oyster Cult August 14th and Jefferson Starship on September 4th. Also if you are a Elvis fan on July 23rd and July 24th is a Elvis Tribute competition. The events are held downtown on Fremont street under the Fremont Street Experience canopy.
