"Orleans" To Strip Shuttle

Parked shuttles still in their old Coast Casinos liveryThe off Strip property the "The Orleans" does run a free shuttle to the strip and back a nice choice if you are visiting that property and want to save on cab fare. The shuttle picks up about every 30 minutes from 9:30am to midnight the shuttle runs to the Strip at the side of "Bills Gambling Hall & Saloon" and to the "Gold Coast" which is another off strip property owned by the Boyd Group before returning to the "The Orleans." The "Gold Coast" is next to the "Rio" and across the street from the "Palms" which also makes the shuttle a good choice if you are visiting these properties. The shuttle bus pickup at the "The Orleans" is out front of the South Entrance doors. In the picture you see a row of parked shuttles which are still in their Coast Casino's livery which is the name of a group of properties such as the "The Orleans" and "Gold Coast" before Boyds took them over.

Boyd Gaming First Quarter Loss

Boyd Gaming has announced its results for the first quarter of this year and a small loss of $3.5 million after a small profit of $8.4 million a year ago for the same quarter. Revenue was way up but some of that is because all of the "Borgata's" revenues in Atlantic City are now included in the results although revenue for that and other properties was down. The revenues in the locals market in Las Vegas were flat although one bright spot was "The Orlean's" which recorded its best revenue in three quarters. The "California" which is in downtown Las Vegas also did well as its Hawaiian package customers spent more and well as greater efficiencies in the operation although this was offset by higher fuel costs for Boyds charter operation. Boyds seems to be riding out the downtown as well as can be expeted and seems to be keeping its costs down as much as possible for when hopefully the Las Vegas market and the national economy rebounds.

Sexy Football Coming To Las Vegas

If you were upset that Las Vegas doesn't have a professional football team then worry no more as this fall the Lingerie Football League is coming to Las Vegas with an expansion team. Okay it isn't the kind of football you were expecting but these ladies are very competitive. The new Las Vegas team is called the Las Vegas Sin and will play their home games at the Orleans Arena next to the "Orleans" hotel and join other new expansion teams the Cleveland Crush and the Green Bay Chill.

Restaurant Changes At "The Orleans"

Don Miguels the often closed Mexican restaurant at "The Orleans" has been closed for good and replaced by another Mexican restaurant called Coasta Cantina. The other main change of the Seattle's Best Coffee shop which has been replaced by Java Vegas Coffee which has a logo with the Seattle skyline and has Vegas in the name strange but the coffee is good so guess that doesn't matter. I don't know how much lead time they had before the switch over but there is still a Don Miguel sign in the casino as well as a discount Seattle's Best coupon which runs through March in the fun book sheet when you check in.

Hotel Pet Peeves

Okay let me share some of my general pet peeves when staying in hotels in Las Vegas. First off when you get to the hotel is long check in lines of over an hour. First of all i understand that hotels keep their staffing levels low and don't want extra front desk personnel standing around when its slower. When the lines get long every supervisor in the hotel should be able to jump on the desk and help check in customers, nothing bugs me more than having empty check in computers while people wait in long lines. Why not have computer check in stations like they do at the airport where people could check in themselves using there check card or maybe even slot card like Total Rewards; The desk personnel would then just have to verify ids's etc, this would be a nice option and in the long run would save the hotels money but in the current economy i cannot see it happening. Okay next pet peeve is resort fees which is a fee charged to your room daily on top of the price you pay for the room. The resort fees are usually about $10-$20 a day and include things that in the past were free like, in room safes or coffee pots, access to fitness center or pool and unlimited free calls. The resort fees can add up to $100 or more if you are staying for a week and do provide extra income for the hotel but include the price in your nightly rate don't nickel and dime your customers. Not everyone does this and Harrah's for example makes a big deal that they don't charge resort fees so thank you Harrah's. Also some other properties don't charge a resort fee or hotels like the Orleans charge a small resort fee at $5 per day so shop around and, add fee to your daily room rate when comparing. Okay last pet peeve is two things in the hotel rooms one is the strip on the bottom of the bed which looks like a blanket but is just a cloth decorative strip to make the bottom of the bed pretty. The other thing is the big bowl sinks on top of the bathroom counters yes they look fancy but you have to bed over side of the bowl and then they have a tendency to splash water. Okay got these off my chest if you have any others just leave them in the comments.
