MGM Raises Parking Rates

MGM Resorts has announced that parking rates at its 12 properties on the Las Vegas Strip are raising starting today, the new rates also include a new two to four hour valet rate. The rates of course vary by property although free self parking is still available for Pearl, Gold, Platinum or NOIR level members of its M Life players card or cardholders of its M Life Rewards Mastercard. Food Network celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis brings her restaurant magic to Caesar’s Palace next weekend with the opening of her follow up restaurant Pronto. The Las Vegas Raiders have opened a preview center at the Town Square Mall to give fans a look at the coming stadium which broke ground in November at a 62 acres site on Russell Road west of Interstate 15 with a 2020 planned opening date. Taxi Ridership Drops Again

It shouldn’t really be a surprise with the popularity of Uber and Lyft that ridership and revenue for Las Vegas taxi companies is down for a third year in a row. Taxi trips in Las Vegas totaled 19.9 million which was down 13.6% and revenue was down 13.7% and most likely this won’t stop as the taxi industry hasn’t been able to offer a competing app that has shown much traction. One bright spot is during the recent Consumer Electronic Show on the first day, taxis were popular with 18,413 pickups that day compared with 11,465 for the competing services.

It looks like mega DJ Calvin Harris will be sticking in Las Vegas as his lucrative residency deal at Caesar’s Palace has just got extended until 2020. The Scottish born DJ and producer started his deal at Caesar Palace in 2015 at their Omnia nightclub with 25 dates announced this year beginning March 9th. In recent years many famous DJ’s have signed big residency deals at resorts in Las Vegas but we’re not really surprised that his residency has been extended as the deal seems a good deal for both parties.

The Las Vegas Strip has lost its only movie theater with the recent closure of the Regal United Artists Theater at the Showcase Mall. The Showcase Mall near the MGM Grand has been getting a makeover and the movie theater has been has since 1998 but the space may be better used as restaurants or clubs instead.
