The restaurant make over continues at The Palms the latest being the resorts coffee shop which will reopen July 1st as the Lucky Penny an updated version of the classic twenty-four-hour coffee shop.  The Lucky Penny will feature an updated menu with the usual soups, salads, burgers, pizza, sandwiches as well as wok dishes, boozy shakes and cold pressed juices. To retain a gambling license at a closed property, gambling is required on the site for a few hours every two years. This brings us to the closed Las Vegas Club and Mermaids in Downtown Las Vegas that Derek Stevens majority owner of the D Las Vegas has bought for future development. As Independence Day in the United States draws near Las Vegas resorts will start to be announcing if they plan to have public firework displays on July 4th. Station Casino’s have announced that they will have free firework displays at two of their properties Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch. Monday night is Hollywood movie night at the Boulevard Pool on the scenic rooftop of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas; As part of the Summer movie series they screen a different movie every Monday night on the big screen next to the pool. The organizers of this weekend’s Electric Daisy Carnival as well as local police and officials do a good job trying to keep things moving but with 140,000 people going to EDC there will be some delays. If you are not visiting EDC I would avoid Interstate 15 north of downtown completely until Monday afternoon. If you are attending the Electric Daisy Carnival this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway you could pay for one of the many shuttles provided by EDC with various pick up points around town.
