In the middle of the 90’s there was a sudden rush to themed restaurant concepts in Las Vegas with even Steven Spielberg getting in to the act with a submarine themed restaurant called Dive. The Steven Spielberg one wasn’t that bad but many were poorly themed and kitschy with overpriced non memorable food, so you would check it out once and then never go back. One exception to these was the Rainforest Cafe at the MGM Grand the food was actually pretty good and although not inexpensive was good value for money and the theme from the animatronics apes to the rain storms was well done without being kitschy. The bad news is the Rainforest Cafe at the MGM has closed but the good news it has reopened at the Harmon Center just down the Strip. I usually don’t recommend chain restaurants when you are in Las Vegas as there are several Rainforest Cafe’s around the country but if you haven’t been before it might be worth checking it out. If you want to check out the restaurant it is at 3717 South Las Vegas Boulevard in the Harmon Center next to Planet Hollywood and if you are a AARP member you get a 10 percent discount on food and non alcoholic drinks.
