First they have buses that go to different areas of the strip but the driver of a different of a different area of the strip told me to get on then joked with a co worker that it would take me 90 mins before i got to the Orleans as he had over areas of the strip to drop off first. I had already paid and considered taking a taxi but i had already paid for the shuttle. I went to get on with my small bag with a laptop in it but her said all bags must be put in the back which is basically a hole where they stack the bags on top of each other Once i got on i saw other people with bags the same size of mine or bigger which bugged me. The shuttle then sat there for 35 minutes while they waited for the last 2 seats to fill up. After we left i was worried about what shape my laptop would be after everyone else got off so i got off at the Luxor at the first stop. As the driver was unloading the bag for the customer in front of me we throw my bag to the other side up against the side wall of the shuttle. I checked the bag amazingly my laptop was fine and then got a cab from the Luxor to The Orleans.

Scooter Rental's

One way to get around town is to rent a scooter from many of the numerous places around town that rent them. You usually rent them for a twenty four hour period because of there low fuel usage can be economical way to get around although riding a bike may not be for everyone. Traffic on the Strip is heavy as to be expected but off Strip outside of peak times traffic moves freely. There are several scooter rentals places in town i will leave information on Paradise Rental's just because they advertise $30 per day for twenty four hours but there is other places.

Some hotels offer free shuttle buses to their properties for hotel guests but most do not so check with your hotel first. Another option is the paid for shuttle buses which you pick up from one side of the baggage claim area. You just tell the shuttle employees in the booth which hotel you are going too and then pay them after which they will direct you to the right bus. The companies generally have shuttles that work the strip and then separate ones that work downtown. Fares differ slightly between companies but run about $5 to the strip per person or about $7 downtown and you can usually save a $1 or so by paying for a return ticket. The shuttle buses stop at whichever the hotels the guests are going too so if the bus is full and you hotel is the last drop off may take a while to get hotel but the buses are air conditioned and if your first visit you do get to look at other properties. The driver does have a tip jar by the door and if you tip its up to you but if he loads heavy or several cases for you it might be nice to do.The shuttle buses are run by several companies including Bell Trans (702) 739-7990, Gray Line Tours (702) 539-5700 or Showtime Tours (702) 895-9976.

Hailing A Cab In Las Vegas

I see it all the time tourists walking out in the street to hail a cab, its not New York and the cabs are not suppose to pick people up on the street. The best option if you are on the strip or downtown to get a cab is to walk to the front of one of bigger hotels and, join the taxi line. Usually lines of taxi's will be waiting and the doormen will signal to a cab when its your turn and, ask where you are going so he can tell the driver. Its customary to tip the doormen but don't make a big deal over the tip just slide it in to his hand. How much to tip is up to you but a buck or two is fine; The doormen is also a good source for information if you have time and if he gives you a good tip feel free to tip him a bit more. If you are not near one of the larger hotels you can also call for a taxi and have it pick you up. Cabs are a good option for larger groups because there is a five person maximum but there fare is the same however the number of people in the cab. Especially during big conventions they often bring cabs in from surrounding areas and some cabs have a plate on the back section of the can saying there are restricted from certain areas if you get one and it cannot go to where you want just get the next cab in line.

Lux Bus departs from several locations in Los Angeles, Anaheim or San Diego. The trip from Anaheim for example is $99 return which is much cheaper than a plane ticket but its also a 5 hour bus ride each way. Once in Las Vegas the bus will drop you off at the Flamingo, Harrahs or downtown at the California.
