Lady Gaga’s hit 2009 song “Bad Romance” has been added to the Bellagio Fountain Show so it will now be included in the song rotation. It takes several months to add a new song to the show to sync it to the dancing waters and lighting but with Lady Gags’s huge following i’m sure it will be popular. The song was added one day after Lady Gaga won an Academy Award for best original song in her movie “A Star Is Born. The last song added to the Bellagio Fountain Show if you are interested was “Believe” by Cher over a year ago.
On my last trip to Las Vegas a tourist by the SLS asked me where the stars of celebrities were in the pavement and, i didn’t really have a great answer for her but i remember some in various places on center Strip but no one location. First of all if you are not familiar with what is officially called “The Las Vegas Walk Of Stars” it is similar to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and, in this case the cement stars in the sidewalk honor Las Vegas entertainment people.
The cement stars were removed in several places on the Strip during construction, but good news as it looks like the stars will have a new home as they are moving to the Linq Promenade in a location near the High Roller observation wheel. The new home will be a lot better for the “Las Vegas Walk Of Stars” because with the previous home being on the Strip it was hard to see the stars without blocking the heavy foot traffic on the,, so a new place where people can look and take pictures will be a big plus.
Yes there are still many free attractions in Las Vegas even though everything else has gotten more expensive in recent times. One such free attraction is the Silverton Aquarium which is located at the mountain chalet themed Silverton Hotel & Casino near the South Strip. If you plan on visiting the Silverton and the aquarium i would suggest if you don’t have a car to take a taxi or Uber to the property as its about 4 1/2 miles south of the Mandalay Bay.
The aquarium is a huge 117,000 gallon glass tank filled with tropical fish and is located in the lobby right next to the Bass Pro Shop. The aquarium has three species each of sharks and stingrays as well as the thousands of tropical fish on display. Every day they have interactive feeding sessions where the staff biologist answers guests questions during the feeding show.
The attraction also features Mermaids swimming with the fish with free shows on Thursday through Sunday with them starting at noon every day except Sunday where shows start at 10:30 am.
While you are checking out the aquarium you might also want to check out the entrance from the resort to the Bass Pro Shop which is beautiful in its own right. The display includes an 18,000 gallon water feature modeled after Nevada’s Red Rock Canyon. The rock formations are filled with huge Koi fish as well as a flowing river with other wildlife such as turtles, ducks and sturgeon fish, three other smaller aquariums are located inside the Bass Pro Shop.
These attractions are not ones you are going to spend hours at but they are a nice break from action and crowds on the Strip.
In Las Vegas you don’t really need an excuse to party but in honor of St Patrick’s Day the Plaza Hotel & Casino in Downtown Las Vegas is having a free party. The free party is Saturday March 17th night under the famed domed entrance of the Plaza and runs between 7 pm and ends at 10 pm with a 3-minute firework show.
During the event will be Irish inspired entertainment as well as a DJ on hand to spin some Irish music while you drink your green beer. At the event you will also see the debut of the Plaza’s new 10 feet by 5 feet behind the stage with flames throughout the party.
The free firework show starts at 10 pm and, will have fireworks shot from various locations on the property in a special green pyrotechnics display; I don’t know how many shades of green there are in firework’s, but I guess we are going to find out.

In Las Vegas there are many free attractions but the top of many people’s list as a not to miss in Las Vegas is often the Bellagio Fountains. The nightly shows draw big crowds to the front of the Bellagio as the more than a thousand jets of water shoot water as high as 460 feet in to the air. The fountains shoot water in sync with various styles of music with everything from pop, opera, classical, Broadway to classic Las Vegas singers. If you want to see the show in a good viewing spot i would suggest you get there early and wait especially for the evening and weekend shows as at these times the show draws big crowds.

Benny Binion is famous in the history of Downtown Las Vegas after he opened the Horseshoe casino in 1951 a mainstay of Downtown which in more recent times was renamed Binion’s Horseshoe and is now just called Binion’s. The Horseshoe was famous for excepting any size bet in the casino and, Benny Binion was a key figure in the development of the World Series of Poker tournament; If that wasn’t enough Benny Binion also helped the popular National Finals Rodeo secure its home in Las Vegas. In 1984 a 15-foot-tall, 2,800-pound bronze statue of Benny Binion on horseback was placed by Binion’s parking structure at the corner of Casino Center Drive and Ogden in Downtown. Back in 2005 we wrote a brief article about the statue which was created by Deborah Copenhaver and is very cool although the location of the statue meant that not many people saw it except maybe Las Vegas bloggers or people in to Las Vegas history. In 2008 the statue was moved to a better more visible location at the South Point Hotel & Casino on the South end of the Strip. South Point owner Michael Gaughan bought the statue from the Binion family for $1 under a deal where he would make a better permanent home for the statue. If you want to check out the statue it’s located in the corridor outside the South Point Hotel & Casino’s Equestrian Center and is available twenty-four hours a day to check out for free.

The number of free attractions Las Vegas have been less over the last few years with things such as the ‘Sirens’ show at TI gone as well as the ‘Carnival in the Sky’ at the Rio. One free attraction that has been around for many years is the free display of ‘One Million Dollars’ at Binion’s in Downtown Las Vegas which is a display made of old bills from one to one hundred dollars under a clear pyramid design. You can also pose next to the money and receive a free 6×8 glossy photo inside a souvenir frame even though the younger generation may not know what a physical photo; is but you do need to be 21 to see the display and get the photo as it’s in the middle of the casino so sorry younger people. The display is near the Club Binions booth and is open from 9am to 11:30pm daily so if you are downtown its worth a quick visit and to receive the free photo. For more information you can call Binion’s toll free at (800) 937-6537 or local number (702) 382-1600. (Article courtesy of LV Downtown Now)
