NoSEOProJuly 29, 2010 1. Usually book direct but there are some eixpetcons.2. The major strip hotels guarantee the lowest rate if you book with them. TI, Wynn/Encore, Casino Royale do not. NONE of the downtown or locals casinos guarantee the lowest rate if you book with them direct. MGM/Mirage, Caesars (Harrah’s) and Sands (Venetian/Palazzo) own most of the strip hotels and these 3 chains guarantee the lowest rate at their hotels.3. If you are an AMEX card holder enrolled in the FHR program, you can sometimes get lower rates through FHR than booking direct. This is very true for Wynn/Encore and sometimes the boutique rooms at MGM Skylofts, Four Seasons, etc. 4. Travel sites like Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity and the 2 discounters (Priceline and Hotwire) usually do NOT have the best deals for the big strip hotels but may for the downtown and other hotels. However, you can’t tell in advance unless you go through their sites one by one.5. Kayak.com can check hotel rates at the big 5 travel sites (mentioned above) simultaneously and save you a lot of effort and time. However, it is not perfected yet. This means you have to reconfirm prices. Kayak.com is better at comparing airline pricing and I don’t see as many mistakes there.6. The best site for promo codes is smartervegas.com which has the most comprehensive listing by far. Other sites that you see mentioned may have half or fewer of their listings. However, they don’t present the information very well and they put one code on top of the other code and you have to remember the pricing and other offers. Vegasmadeeasy.com presents the codes side by side so you can compare the rates to each other as well as food, beverage, show promotions side by side. This is much easier to do. Go to smartervegas.com first to see what deals there are. Second, go to vegasmadeeasy.com to see if they have the deals compared for you. If not, go back to smartervegas.com and write down the details of the deals that seem the most interesting and then compare them the hard way. 7. After you find the best deal on the web, DON T BOOK IT!8. Hotels sometimes have a drop down rate or a best rate that they only give over the phone. You have to ask for it as the drop down rate or best rate. This rate may be lower than the promo code rate on the web but usually is about the same or maybe a few dollars higher. When you know what the drop down or best rate is, then go ahead and book whatever is cheapest.9. Also, be sure to ask about the resort fees. These are sneaky extras that the Caesars hotels don’t put in but the MGM/Mirage and Sands do. Travel sites often omit them. They can make a big difference.
