Right now at the Plaza in Downtown, Las Vegas is the second annual Pickleball Open running through Saturday 28th September. Yes I had to look up and find out what pickleball is i had a picture in my mind of people hitting jars of pickles with racquets and making a big mess; Pickleball is a cross between tennis, badminton and ping pong with an estimated three million users.
The Pickleball Open has players from the United States and around the word including Japan, Mexico and Canada with ages from 12 to 81 years old. There are amateur and professional players taking part and grand prize, silver and bronze medalists will split a $25,000 prize package.
The tournament also has men’s, women’s and mixed doubles matches as well as men’s, woman’s. mixed and senior 50 plus professional matches. The matches take place from 8 am to 10 pm daily and good news if you want to watch the event its free to spectate including the semi finals and championships. The event is free and if you are in Downtown Las Vegas it might be worth walking over to the Plaza and checking out the Pickleball Open.
