South Point Employees Furloughed

South Point, Las Vegas

The owner of South Point resort Michael Gaughan has told his 2,200 employees that they will be furloughed on May 3rd; Mr Gaughan didn’t know how long the furlough would last but said his employees would be better off collecting the new unemployement benefits than staying on the South Point payroll.

South Point has said they will continue the health benefits through July 31st but other payroll deductions will end May 3rd. Even after the Corona virus shutdown is over it could be a long time before huge amounts of customers feel comfortable returning to Las Vegas.

As traffic is likely to be light when the casino’s reopen and slower for a while it could be a long time before a lot of these people get rehired.
