It is now a little more expensive to stay at some MGM Resort International properties in Las Vegas as the daily resort fee has been raised to $45 per night at the Bellagio, Vdara and Aria.
At the moment the other MGM resorts in Las Vegas haven’t announced a resort fee increase with the increase for the moment just on their higher end properties. The new increase puts them on par with some of the of higher end properties on the Strip which include the Wynn, Encore, Venetian, Palazzo and the Waldorf Astoria.
Las Vegas visitors have resort fees always high on the list about things they don’t like but at least in the near term it doesn’t look like they are going away.
A very highly anticipated restaurant opening is Water Grill at the Forum Shops, well the good news is the restaurant has finally opened. The restaurant is in the long time Spago space which was closed in January of 2018 so the restaurant could move over to the Bellagio.
The Southern California based Water Grill is one of my favorite restaurants and is known for its amazing seafood, the chain has four restaurants in Southern California and one in Dallas and now the Las Vegas location.
The menu has 16 varieties of oysters, live lobster and crab as well as whole wild fish by the pound including Dover Sole, black sea bass, as well as pink bream with prices in the $33 to $48 per pound price with fresh fish delivered twice a day. A person favorite of mine is fish and chips and they also have some steaks and some chicken but i would skip those as its the seafood that shines at this restaurant.
The restaurant took a while to open as the companies owner Kings Seafood Company has spent millions on the new location with an olde wood ship decor with heavy beams and a plank floor with the room decorated with antique fishing roods as well as details such as a copper bar and a chandelier with 14,000 oyster shells. . The restaurant also has a large patio area that opens out on to the Forum Shoppes which also might be a good option for your meal.
The one consistent thing in Las Vegas is that the city is always changing and one upcoming change is the announcement that Hyde at the Bellagio will close on July 6th. Hyde is the nightclub that has an amazing 10,000 square foot space with an amazing spot with views of the Bellagio fountains. The Hyde space will be remodeled with a new name and concept, no date has been announced but it’s expected to reopen by the end of the year. Hyde has been open about eight years which is a pretty good run and the club i’m sure was busy but for such a prime space the club would need to be full all the time so maybe a new name and concept will bring in new crowds.
Lady Gaga’s hit 2009 song “Bad Romance” has been added to the Bellagio Fountain Show so it will now be included in the song rotation. It takes several months to add a new song to the show to sync it to the dancing waters and lighting but with Lady Gags’s huge following i’m sure it will be popular. The song was added one day after Lady Gaga won an Academy Award for best original song in her movie “A Star Is Born. The last song added to the Bellagio Fountain Show if you are interested was “Believe” by Cher over a year ago.
The Water Grill a popular seafood restaurant in Southern California has announced that it’s opening a Las Vegas location in the former space of Spago in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. The new restaurant is due to open February 15th next year and is owned by King’s Seafood Company which owns six seafood restaurant groups including the King;s Fish House which has a restaurant at the District at Green Valley Ranch.
Spago was a long time fixture at the Forum Shops having opened in 1992 before it moved to the Bellagio last June, its former space is a prime location which should be a great location for the Water Grill. The Water Grill has four locations in Southern California as well as a location in Dallas, i have visited the Costa Mesa location and had a very good meal with great service so I look forward to checking out the Las Vegas location.
Update July 23rd 2019
If you were waiting like many for the Water Grill to open to enjoy the huge selection of oysters and many varieties of fresh fish the wait is open as the restaurant is now open at the Forum Shops.

A popular Japanese artist that is attracting sold out crowds around the world is bringing his exhibit to the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art starting this Saturday. The artist called Yayoi Kusama has installed what are called ‘Infinity Rooms’which consist of mirrors and lights which combine to make an infinity of combinations. One or two viewers enter rooms along a catwalk an are immersed in the experience for forty five seconds at a time, if you want to check out the exhibit it starts as i mentioned November 17th and runs through April 28th of 2019.
In Las Vegas there are many free attractions but the top of many people’s list as a not to miss in Las Vegas is often the Bellagio Fountains. The nightly shows draw big crowds to the front of the Bellagio as the more than a thousand jets of water shoot water as high as 460 feet in to the air. The fountains shoot water in sync with various styles of music with everything from pop, opera, classical, Broadway to classic Las Vegas singers. If you want to see the show in a good viewing spot i would suggest you get there early and wait especially for the evening and weekend shows as at these times the show draws big crowds.
Fountain Show Times:
Monday to Friday every 30 minutes from 3 pm to 8pm and then every 15 minutes from 8 pm to midnight
Saturdays and Holidays the shows start at noon and then every 30 minutes until 8 pm and then every 15 minutes until midnight
Sundays the shows start at 11 am and then every 30 minutes until 7 pm and then every 15 minutes until midnight
Because of the split of Jean Philippe Maury and MRI properties the two former Jean Philipe Patisserie’s have been renamed with names reflecting their location with the newly named Aria Patisserie as well as the Bellagio Patisserie. It’s not known if these will be the permanent names for these locations, but I do know the pastries are amazing and worth checking out.
A longtime fixture of the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace the famous restaurant Spago by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck has announced that it will close this Saturday January 27th. But fans of Spago in Las Vegas shouldn’t worry the restaurant will return this Summer at a new location at the Bellagio in the former space of Todd English’s Olives which had been at the property since 1998. When Spago opened in 1992 at the Forum Shops Las Vegas was a very different city and some doubted that a celebrity chef restaurant especially one inside a mall would work, but Spago proved it would in a city that now has numerous celebrity chef restaurants. No date on the opening for the new Spago has been announced other than sometime this Summer, but once the 2.5 million makeover is done to the space i’m sure the Spago fans will fill the new location.
Amazingly in Las Vegas you can get a tour of a hotel suite just by asking, the availability of the tours depends on which suites are not booked as well as staff availability to show you. The larger properties such as the Mirage, Bellagio, Wynn, Encore are the most likely to accomadate you they are also some of the properties with the best suites; If you are interested just call the property and ask the hotel desk for the availability of touring a suite.
