The former space of the Mob Bar in Downtown Las Vegas at the Downtown Grand has been converted in to a 100 seat entertainment venue called The Spare Room. The space near the Art Bar will host Don Barnhart’s Hypnomania at 7pm followed by Delirious Stand Up Comedy at 9pm with shows Wednesdays through Sundays.
Tickets for the shows are $29.99 each plus the usual fees and taxes are available at downtowngrand.com/shows. The Downtown Grand is a a block off the Fremont Street Experience so not every visitor to Downtown Las Vegas walks over to the resort which is a shame because its a nice property; Hopefully the new entertainment venue brings more people to the resort as well as very good nearby restaurants.
The approval has been given for the eight-story hotel tower addition to the Downtown Grand where the current valet area on the East side is located. This addition the third tower at the property will add another 495 rooms to the current room total bringing the overall resort to 1,124 rooms. The Downtown Grand is a nice property with a nice pool deck area, the problem for the property since it opened has been its location, a block off the Fremont Street Experience. The Downtown Grand has been doing things such as concerts and pool events to get people to walk the mainly empty block between the resort and Fremont Street. The addition of more rooms to the property should get more people staying onsite which will help the casino and restaurants on the property.
The Downtown Grand just off the Fremont Street Experience has a good points promotion for its my points slot players tomorrow on Easter Sunday, with 20X slot points on video reel machines. The special promotion just for Easter Sunday also includes 5X slot points on video poker machines, contact players services at the Downtown Grand for more details.
The Downtown Grand offers a complimentary shuttle for its hotel guests to get around Downtown and visit some of the attractions. The hotel offers two lines the blue line starts service at 10:30am and runs about every 30 minutes from the Downtown Grand to the Premium Outlets (north) and then to the Container Park before returning to the property. The blue line service last shuttle leaves at 2:45 and then at 5pm the Orange Line begins service with stops at the same places as well as one stop at the Neon Museum At 6:40pm as well as stopping at the Smith Center For The Performing Arts many times. If no performances are scheduled at the Smith Center then only the 5:00pm service on the blue line will run. For more information on the shuttle service check with the Downtown Grand.
When plans were announced about turning the former closed Lady Luck in to the Downtown Grand one of the areas that got a lot of discussion was the new rooftop pool being added to the remodeled hotel. Apart from the pool with the usual cabanas etc. one feature that got attention was the picnic area near it; the picnic area was to feature real grass and be available for locals events such as screening movies on the rooftop. Well the real grass idea was replaced by the fake kind my guess, irrigating real grass on a roof of a casino isn’t an easy thing to do but the space is still there and just opened. No word yet on planned events for the space although ads for the new urban rooftop pool experience do say that public access is subject to availability. Downtown is short of hotel pools so this opening is welcome and a public lawn area for events sounds interesting we will have to see how often its used for that. The space can also rented for wedding receptions for 1,500 guests which maybe become a popular space for that but lets hope the space is available for public access events often too.
