Another food opinion has been added to the Palm’s Food Court with the opening a location of Freshii a healthier fast food chain from our Canadian friends. The chain was founded in Toronto in 2005 and, has over 450 locations in North and South America as well as Europe and the Middle East.
The new restaurant will be open 24 hours a day and sells a menu of salads, wraps, bowls as well as juice, smoothies, burritos, soups as well as a breakfast menu so a little bit of everything. Las Vegas is a city of not always the healthiest food so it will be interesting to see how a more healthy food restaurant does in a city of endless buffets.
I do visit the Palms Food Court often for the Earl Of Sandwich snd the Coffee Bean located there so on my next trip i will check out Freshii if you have been to one of their locations outside Las Vegas or new location share your experience in the comments.
Many people had been waiting for this Kaos, the new nightclub and day club has finally opened at the Palms with a 73,000 square foot day club and a 20,000 square foot nightclub. The new club in the press release claims that Kaos has the highest numbers of pools of any resort in North America i have no idea if thats true or not but either way i’m not going to count them. The new club has a 270 foot LED wall that runs along the side of the Ivory Tower facing the Strip and they are saying its the largest video screen in Las Vegas also as part of the club is a Tesla coil ceiling for sound and special effects; Additional features of the club include two cannons that shoot water 100 feet in the air, three sculptures from Damien Hirst and a champagne vault with personalized butler service.
Kaos is part of the $690 million remodel of the Palm’s and could bring the club crowds back to the Palms which at one time was the hottest place in town for the club crowd before Wynn and other competitors upped their game. When Station Casinos bought the Palms many wondered if they would just keep the property a locals centered property and abandon the tourist crowd but with all the money they have spent its clear they want to draw the tourists as well as locals to the resort.
The dates have been announced for the 12th annual Las Vegas Film Festival which will take place from, April 28th until May 5th with most of the events taking place in downtown Las Vegas. The main sponsor for the event is Zappos and like the last couple of years a few of films are going to be shown at the Brenden Theaters at the Palms.
The films shown at the Las Vegas Film Festival will be a mixture of feature films and documentaries that have been popular on the film festival circuit. One reason while people like film festivals apart from exploring new films is often the filmmakers and or cast are often on hand at these events to answer questions about the movie.
Marc Vetri the owner of the amazingly popular Vertri Cucina in Philadelphia for 20 years has added a Las Vegas location which is now open on the 56th floor of the Palms. Chef Marc Vetri won the James Beard Award for Best Chef Mid Atlantic in 2005 and is known for his incredible pasta dishes and Italian fine dining which is a personal favorite of mine so i will have to check it out as soon as possible. If you have visited the new location of Vertri Cucina in Las Vegas or the original location in Philadelphia share you experience in the comments.
The ongoing remodel of the Palms by Station Casinos was originally budgeted at $485 million but that price tag has soared to $690 million. The reason for the price increase is the rising cost of materials as well as a tight labor market but the construction is on track to end by the third quarter of next year.
Even with the extra cost for Palms remodel i think its likely money well spent for Station Casinos for a property that’s not too far from the Strip and, especially if the rumors of a new hotel or arena at the nearby Rio come to fruition.
An overnight buffet in Las Vegas is not a common thing but they do come and go from time to time the last one i remember was one that was briefly offered at the Palms last year. The Palace Station Feast Buffet runs from midnight to 8 am with a price of $10.99 although its only $6.99 with a players club which is a bargain. The players club is called the Boarding Pass and is free to join so well worth getting to get your discount.
The station casino buffets are always a good deal value wise and the Palace Station as well as the buffet at the location have recently been remodeled. The Palace Station is across the Interstate from the Strip so easier to check out if you have a car or take a taxi or Uber or Lyft but taking a break from the busy Strip isn’t always a bad thing.
I’m a night owl and often take advantage of the late night food specials and a Graveyard Buffet to me is a plus but i understand not everyone wants to eat in the middle of the night but for those like me that do, here is a good option.
If you are a member of the armed forces you get 15 percent off room rates at the off Strip Palms and also Palms Place; The discount at the Palms applies to their Superior and Premier guest rooms as well as their Ivory Suites and at the Palms Place it applies to their Palms Place suites and one bedroom suites. For more information as well as the terms and conditions check out the Palms website.
The pool complex at the Palms will be closed this Summer as its remade as part of the ongoing remodel going on at the resort. If you go to the Palms website it discusses the Palms Place pool which is where Palms guests will have pool privileges until the construction has concluded. One effect of the construction at the Palms pool means most likely no “Ditch Friday” pool parties although there are now many other options around town for dayclub crowd.
As the $485 million dollar makeover continues at the Palms it looks like the distinctive marquee sign is going to be replaced with an all electronic version. Once the new sign is up this blogger will have to schedule a trip to take pictures of the new sign to share with you, oh an excuse to visit Las Vegas and, have fun how horrible, but honestly the make over at the Palms has made the resort a lot more interesting with new restaurant and club options.
The Las Vegas Strip has lost its only movie theater with the recent closure of the Regal United Artists Theater at the Showcase Mall. The Showcase Mall near the MGM Grand has been getting a makeover and the movie theater has been has since 1998 but the space may be better used as restaurants or clubs instead. The movie theater here always seemed to me a little odd location as if you wanted to drive to see a movie there you would have to deal with Strip traffic and if you walked you would have to take elevators from the Strip. If you want to take a break from the casino floor to watch a movie there still are movie theaters nearby at the Palms as well as the Orleans.
