Even though it wasn’t a place i visited often some people have missed the restaurant Smith & Wollensky since it closed its Strip side location next to the Showcase Mall near MGM. The restaurant closed after the Showcase Mall sold for a reported $60 million which included the building that Smith & Wollensky was in.
The new location is further down the Strip at the Venetian with a 450 seat restaurant in the former location of Zeffirino Restaurante which closed in May 2017. It will be interesting to see how the restaurant does in a non Strip side location and if it will be as successful.
If you have a sweet tooth then soon you will have another option with the opening of It’ Sugar a candy store with its newest location at the Grand Bazaar Shops In front of Bally’s. The store is scheduled to open next with a huge gum ball machine at the front of the store which itself had a reported budget of $250,00.
It’ Sugar is a nation chain of stores that specializes in huge bags of candy as well as other novelties and gifts including many items related to Stranger Things the Netflix television show.
If you cannot wait the chain also has other locations in Downtown Summerlin, Town Square as well as an existing Strip location at Venetian in the Grand Canal Shops.
The popular Australian performers Human Nature have announced they have signed a new contract for another three years performing their show at Venetian’s Sands Showroom with their show called “Jukebox.” The Aussie quartet is mostly known for their performance of Motown songs but they also do classic pop songs as well as soul and doo-wop during their popular show. Human Nature has been together for thirty years including ten years in Las Vegas and put on a really good show, its always one of the shows i would recommend for a visitor to Las Vegas. One note is a couple of times a year the show is on a break as they return to their native Australia to tour.
Pop, jazz and r&b band Steely Dan has announced a mini residency starting in April at the Venetian Theater. Founding member Donald Fagen fronts the band which gets good reviews as a touring act in a the mini residency which is called “Reelin’ in the Chips 2.” The nine shows are on April 25, 26 and 27 and then in May at 1, 3, 4, 8, 10 and 11 with tickets starting at $142 up to $321 plus all the usual taxes and fees; For more information check with the Venetian Theater box office.
The popular Halal Guys is adding a second location on the Strip at the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian with the menu most likely to be the same as its current location at the Forum Shops at Caesars food court. The restaurant will open in the former location of Kabob Empire and, includes favorites such as baba ghanoush, baklava, hummus, falafel and gyros.
Las Vegas Sands has ended its business relationship with the Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group which will mean the closure of the three restaurants at its Las Vegas properties. The three restaurants are Carnevino Italian Steakhouse, B&B Ristorante and Otto Enotoca e Pizzeria at the Venetian and Palazzo resorts with the loss of nearly 300 jobs.
The announcement follows the reports of sexual misconduct surrounding celebrity chef Mario Batali and follows a report on CBS’s “60 Minutes” concerning one alleged victim. Mario Batali is well known to Food Network viewers and was a co host of ABC’s “The Chew” until he left in December when some reports of his alleged behavior had surfaced. The closure date for the restaurants has been announced as July 27th so if you are a fan of any of these restaurants you still have a little time to visit and, so far Las Vegas Sands hasn’t announced replacements for these restaurants.
The Rockhouse inside the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian has announced a new happy hour which includes a $1 Pabst Blue Ribbon deal. Recently Casino Royale raised the price of its long time deal of a $1 beer to $2 so if you missed that deal here is another option for you. The happy hour runs from 4 pm to 7 pm Monday to Friday and also includes other deals such as $5 Jameson or Patron as well as $10 Vodka & Red Bull or $10 for domestic pitchers.
Legendary group Earth Wind & Fire have announced that they will have a mini residency in May with six shows at the Venetian Theater with tickets going on sale today at 10 am PST. The group has 33 songs that have hit the Billboard Hot 100 in their more than 40 year career, including 7 that have made it in to the top ten. As many shows have been doing $1 for each ticket sold will be donated to the Las Vegas Victims Fund to help victims and families of shooting in October. If tickets sell well to Earth Wind & Fire mini residency more Adds could be added but for now it’s May 2nd, 4th and 5th as well as 9th and the 11th.
Their have been many benefits to raise funds for the Strip shooting victims but one of note is “Vegas Cares” mainly because of the line up of Las Vegas headliners involved. The benefit happens on Sunday November 5th at 1pm at the Venetian with a base ticket price of $30, the line up includes Las Vegas performers, Terry Fator, Penn & Teller, Lance Burton, Carrot Top, Rich Little as well as the Tenors Of Rock.
Today is the scheduled opening of Chica a new Latin restaurant at the Restaurant Row located inside the Venetian near the casino floor. The restaurant is from John Kunkel the founder of 50 Eggs Inc with the menu crafted by partner chef Lorena Garcia who you might have seen on television shows such as Top Chef Masters among other shows. The new restaurants menu will draw from the chefs Venezuelan roots as well as other countries such as Brazil, Peru, Mexico and Argentina which sounds like an interesting concept.
